Profile
Fumiyoshi
Based in his hometown in Niigata, Fumiyoshi is a shamisen player who performs and gives lectures both in Japan and abroad. He excels at Hiki-shamisen renditions, which value the resonance of sound. Not only playing standard pieces in the Tsugaru-shamisen style, Fumiyoshi also aims to achieve new Japanese music that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional arts while staying true to the important classical shamisen base. In 2011, Fumiyoshi became the first Japanese person to perform at the Louvre Museum in Paris. With a performance scheduled at Carnegie Hall in New York City next year, Fumiyoshi is an artist garnering wide attention.
